hiblet Soup Kitchen Lady is a big favourite. I used to volunteer for another Canberra ‘soup kitchen lady’ at the now closed Northbourne Community Centre. So this witty portrait of a local altruistic eccentric is full of nostalgia. Rest in peace, soup kitchen lady. Favorite track: Soup Kitchen Lady.

SOUP KITCHEN LADY You're the reason I get through my day You're the reason I get through my week You're the reason I have a reason You're my reason to live Soup kitchen lady, how can I thank thee Your soup’s delicious and nutritious I wanna give you hugs and kisses But you're really old Soup kitchen lady, you drive me crazy You make those vegetables so tasty You amaze me, you're a lady and I'm a man Together we can drive around in your van Soup kitchen lady, I do Somebody cut into the line, you didn't take that So you yelled in your eastern European accent We don't know what you say But we know what you mean Somebody didn't use the tongs to get their bread So you hit them with the tongs on the head I think that's fair Hygiene is very important The soup kitchen lady and me We're gonna have such a healthy family Just wait and see So if you see me in the city On a Canberra Friday evening please come with me to see The soup kitchen lady Cos all the junkies and the homeless workaholic public servants All stand inline, all equal in her eyes And I wish I knew the name of my true love But I don't need to know her name for her to fill my cup Cos she’s the soup kitchen lady

WHAT LOVE IS (stalker song) I’ll follow you to the end of the earth And you will never ever have to search Just hold out your arms And baby I’ll run, baby I’ll jump for you I’ll be your super hero and I will fly by your side And if you ever need help I will gladly abide I’ll punch out the baddies and walk you home Because you shouldn’t walk through this dark city alone Because you can’t trust anybody anymore Baby when you need me just look out your window And I'll be going through your garbage I know you're scared Baby I know you’re scared But that's what love is When you wake up in the morning I'll be collecting your washing Because cos I love the way it smells of you and that lacy underwear is so cute I know you bought them for me I know you don't like my letters, you don't understand my poetry That thing about the blood was just a metaphor for love between you and me You shouldn’t have called the police Baby when you need me just look out your window And I'll be going through your garbage I know you're scared Baby I know you’re scared But that's what love is You love to play hard to get, sometimes you act like I'm not even there Like that time you changed your phone number and forgot to tell me I just wanted to send a good night text It’s that feeling that I get when I read your mail It’s that feeling that I get when I lick your door handle And like that time you sprayed me in the face with your mace how it burned And how my heart does yearn We go together like cracks in the curtains we go together like observing and learning I do what the judge says and keep my distance But he doesn't understand the love between us But that's what love is

Boring Man 05:38
I haven't said a word for half a year and now I fear That I've got nothing left to say I meet interesting people who all have their mouths full And I stand there looking dull and gray It's not that my head’s empty it's just that my head’s busy With things that others can not see My eyes stare into space a blank expression on my face And the world revolves around me I do not say a word I do not say a word I do not say a word I'm the most boring man in the world But in my head There is a party And it's ecstatically happy And I'm standing in the middle so excited And there's a circus full of freaks All fantastically unique I'm sorry but you are not invited Well I hope that you don't meet me Cos I'll make you feel so sleepy I'll simply nod my head to what you say And I'll add nothing constructive Conversation will just stop with An awkward silence, have a good day No I don't mean to be so dull I've simply slumped into a lull Once upon a time I used to be such fun But now all the fun has disappeared And all that’s left here Is a flat brick wall that weighs a ton I do not say a word I do not say a word I do not say a word I'm the most boring man in the world But in my head I speak philosophy And all the answers come to me In colours and in such exciting ways And everything is interesting The parties flying in full swing And all you see a just a boring gaze But behind these eyes a trapezests flies And girls on stilts are breathing fire And clown they bounce around on kangaroos And elephants walk round on balls Big ferocious lions roar And there are hoops that giraffes can jump through And the Ferris wheel goes round and round Faster higher off the ground Powered by some cheaters on a wheel Jugglers juggling jugs jump jigs Horses dance on their back legs The sun is shining on a green grass field And lollipops and fairy floss Fun and games horse shoe toss There is something here for everyone A room to sit in and relax A jumping castle that jumps in space A great big place But only room for one Colourless, mundane, dreary dry stuffy Flat drag uninteresting and weary I'm sorry please repeat that I wasn't quite here with it I was flying somewhere far off with the fairies I’m sure you've got a lot to say I'm sure it's very interesting And I'm sure that I should be listening I'm sure that I should try to chit and chat And do all things that Normal people do, but that's not for me I do not say a word I do not say a word I do not say a word I'm the most boring man in the world

My Friends 04:11
MY FRIENDS I see your face when I'm walking down the street I go to say hello but you don't talk back to me Then I remember where I am, I remember where you are I remember the distance is oh so far So I say sorry to the stranger but he doesn't understand A word that I say I say pardon and walk away And I think to myself how amazing it would be if you were here We could meet up and drink some beer Or some wine it doesn't matter I'd be glad ta spend an afternoon with nothing but chitta chatta Had a real good day, got plenty to say Such a shame you gotta be going away Because this city is real pretty but these people they don’t get me I walk around through the town tryin ta find somebody Who will understand me who on earth could that be I have a feeling they're all stuck in the ACT My friends are musicians and actors and artist Who do what they do because that's where their heart is And singers and strummers, livers and laughers Do what they do because that's where the love is There are billions of people spread around the world I only know a few but some of them I know quite well We sit around the fire pass the guitar around I’m so glad I know ya, so proud And we play all the songs that we can remember And all the dodgy covers from when we were teenagers And as the sun starts creeping up and the birds start waking up We keep drinking up and the words have trouble keeping up But we keep trying don’t let the fire die And don’t dare rub your eyes cos no-one here is tired Because we still got rhythm and we still got chords Still got your brain exploding with words My friends are musicians and actors and artist Who do what they do because that's where their heart is And singers and strummers, livers and laughers Do what they do because that's where the love is My friends are all running around in my brain Driving me crazy and I love em to bits And I can see their face but they’re a million miles away If home is where your heart is then home is in my chest But I can't get in there without risking death I'm not a doctor, I'm not a lawyer I'm not anything important just an immature boy I got a mother, I got a father I got a girlfriend who puts up with me I'm glad she is my lover cos I love her And S love summer Spring and autumn are good too but I'm not so keen on winter Cos it's cold here, and I'm lonely I'd walk to your house but I'd drown in the sea See I miss ya, I wanna kiss ya A big juicy one on the side of your cheek Imma thinkin about the future when I return We're gonna sit on the roof and watch one burn Through my red eyes we're gonna see the sun rise With my friends by my side Because my friends they are so fine My friends are musicians and actors and artist Who do what they do because that's where their heart is And singers and strummers, livers and laughers Do what they do because that's where the love is My friends are all running around in my brain Driving me crazy and I love em to bits And I can see their face but they’re a million miles away

I've had so much time to think and it's driving me crazy About how much I hate you and how much you hate me And every time I close my eyes I see you smiling in my mind I just want to punch you in the face I've tried forgiving, tried forgetting But I must just be too petty I hold grudges like you hold facades Patronize, antagonize, everything that I despise I hope you get hit by a bus And I hope you don't get up I don't know what I'll do when I see you I hope I'll just walk away I don't know what I'll say when I see your face I hope I'll just walk away I hope I'll just walk away I've thought and thought about what I should have said before When we had our little argument since then we don't talk But if I had my time again I'd know just what to say I'd say it quick and strong and then I'd walk away But I freeze up in situations which require confrontation Suddenly I turn deaf and dumb Then when I'm lying in bed Thinking what I should have said I wish I kicked you in the head And broken both your legs I don't know what I'll do when I see you I hope I'll just walk away I don't know what I'll say when I see your face I hope I'll just walk away I hope I'll just walk away I'm not a violent person, I don’t like fighting But if I saw you now, I wouldn't mind trying I'd do what I could to see you crying But like I said before, I'm not too keen on fighting so I don't know what I’ll do oh no I don’t know what I’ll do oh no I I don't know what I'll do when I see you I hope I'll just walk away I don't know what I'll say when I see your face I hope I'll just walk away I hope I'll just walk away I wish I could punch you in the face but you're a girl

MYSTERIS BEGIN This blood on the pavement wasn't here yesterday How it got there now well I could not say But I'm sure there's a story and I'd like to hear it Maybe some gangsters and maybe some pirates Fought over buried treasure In dark stormy weather Then someone got hurt and a lesson got learnt And they all shared the treasure together This glass on the street wasn't here last night I my friend she thinks that there was a fight That would account for all of the sounds that I heard When people were yelling some very bad words But I'd like to think they were just playing games And the glass on the street was dropped by mistake And the gangsters told the pirates That they would wait for the daylight Cos shards of glass are dangerous Mysteries begin when sun shine rises The fun has been had and the gangsters and pirates They all go home to sleep They all go home to sleep Red and blue flash through my window against my wall I lift my head up but can't see far enough to see what the lights are for Maybe there’s a party and everybody is very incredibly happy That’s why there are sirens and a voice of a guy says everybody get down on the floor Mysteries begin when sun shine rises The fun has been had and the gangsters and pirates They all go home to sleep They all go home to sleep

PEOPLE ARE NICE People are nice Most people are nice Most of the time Most people are nice and generally happy and helpful and agreeable and amiable and nice Except sometimes when people are hungry, they can get cranky Or if they've just had a bad day and you get in their way, maybe it might not be such nice things they say But I think generally People are nice People are friendly Most people are friendly Most of the time Most people are friendly and generally happy to be meeting new people sociably like at a party Unless they don't want to be at the party, in which case they might be a little bit narky But you can't blame them for that because they didn't want to be there And it's not their fault that they were dragged there forcibly I think in the right situation most people are friendly People are smart Some people are smart And some of the time some of the smart people put their minds to something useful and invent some things that can be used by normal people Like TV and airplanes, how do those things work any way? And who would have thought that those heavy chunks of metal could fly through the sky? Not I But I use them so I'm glad that some People are smart People are nice And friendly and smart Except for the ones who aren't But you can't blame them for that Because it's not their fault that they're not very nice, and unfriendly and dumb And you don't have to hang out with them Unless you work with them But then you don't have to see them on the weekend Unless you get called in But that's just unfortunate and you just have to put up with it and struggle through the day until you go home and see your friends Who are most likely Nice smart and friendly
